How to Set a Cox Mini Box Remote to a TV

Quick checklist (before you start)

  • Cox mini box and TV are on.
  • Remote has fresh batteries.
  • Keep the remote within 1–2 feet of the mini box while pairing.
  • Know the TV brand name (for TV codes) or be ready to use auto search.

Part A — Pair the remote to the mini box (so it controls the box)

  1. Turn on the TV and the Cox mini box.
  2. Using the remote, press Menu (or Home).
  3. Open Settings on the TV screen.
  4. Go to Customer Support (or Help) → Remote Control Pairing (or Remote Pairing).
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions. Press the button the screen asks for when prompted.
  6. Wait for the confirmation message on screen.
  7. Test the remote by changing channels on the mini box. If channels change, pairing is complete.

If the pairing menu is not visible, try removing batteries for 10 seconds, reinsert them, then open the menu again.

Part B — Program the remote to control TV Power and Volume (TV control)

Use either manual code entry or auto code search.

Manual code entry (use if you have the TV code)

  1. Turn the TV on.
  2. Press and hold SETUP on the remote until a light blinks twice.
  3. Press the TV device button.
  4. Enter the 3- or 4-digit code for the TV brand (codes are in the remote guide or at remotes.cox.com).
  5. Point the remote at the TV and press Power to test. If the TV turns off, the code is saved.
  6. Test Volume and Power. If volume does not work, try the next code for the brand.

Auto code search (no code list needed)

  1. Turn the TV on.
  2. Press and hold SETUP until a light blinks twice.
  3. Press the TV key.
  4. Press Power (or the button your remote guide says) repeatedly. The remote will send different codes.
  5. When the TV turns off, press OK, Select, or Stop to save that code.
  6. Turn the TV back on and test volume and power. If volume does not work, repeat the search until you find a code that controls both.

Part C — If you have a voice/Contour remote

Voice remotes may use different steps. Follow any on-screen prompts or the small guide that came with the remote. If needed, check remotes.cox.com for model-specific steps.

Troubleshooting (quick fixes)

  • Replace the remote batteries and try again.
  • Stand within 3 feet when programming TV codes.
  • For TV power/volume programming, point the remote directly at the TV (IR needs line of sight).
  • If RF pairing to the box fails, reboot the mini box (unplug power 10 seconds, plug back in) and retry pairing.
  • If manual codes do not work, use auto search.
  • If nothing works, visit remotes.cox.com or call Cox support for model-specific help.
