How to Program (Set Up) a Cox Mini Box to Your TV

These steps are written so any client can follow them. Do them in order.

1) Unpack and check parts

You should have: the Cox Mini Box, power cord, HDMI cable, a short coax cable, and a remote with batteries. If anything is missing, contact Cox. Cox

2) Connect the wall cable to the Mini Box

Find the active coax wall outlet. Screw one end of the coax cable to the wall outlet and the other end to “Cable from Wall” on the Mini Box. Hand-tighten both ends. Cox

3) Connect the Mini Box to the TV (choose ONE)

Best (HD): HDMI — Plug the HDMI cable from the Mini Box to an HDMI port on the TV. Cox
If no HDMI: Use a second coax from the Mini Box TO TV (RF out). Set the TV to channel 3 or 4, and set the tiny switch on the back of the Mini Box to the same channel. (This method is SD quality only.) CoxManuals+

4) Power it up

Plug the Mini Box power cord into the box and a wall outlet. Turn on the TV. Wait while the Mini Box starts. Cox

5) Select the right TV input

On your TV remote, press Input/Source and pick the HDMI port you used (for HDMI setups). If you used the coax-to-TV method, make sure the TV is on channel 3 or 4 to match the box switch. Cox+1

6) Activate the Mini Box

If you see a screen asking to activate, follow it. You can activate online (Cox support site) or by phone using the number in the Mini Box guide. Keep the TV on during activation and follow the prompts until it completes. Cox

7) Pair and set up the Cox remote (if prompted)

Follow the on-screen steps to pair the remote to the Mini Box and, if desired, program TV power/volume. If you need a refresher, Cox’s setup video also walks through remote pairing. YouTube

8) Test and finish

Change channels and open the guide. If picture or sound is missing, re-check the connections and TV input (or channel 3/4 for RF-to-TV). Cox

Quick Troubleshooting

  • No picture (HDMI): Re-seat the HDMI cable and pick the correct HDMI input on the TV. Cox
  • No picture (coax-to-TV): Make sure the TV and the Mini Box rear switch are both on channel 3 or 4. CoxManuals+
  • “Please activate” loop: Verify the wall-to-box coax is tight; then re-try activation per the guide or contact Cox support.
