Step-by-step: Installation (easy)
1) Place the box
- Put the X96 Mini on a flat surface near the TV.
- Leave some space around it so it can breathe (don’t cover it).
2) Connect HDMI
- Plug one end of the HDMI cable into the HDMI port on the X96 Mini.
- Plug the other end into an empty HDMI port on your TV (note which HDMI number).
3) Connect internet
- Ethernet (best): plug an Ethernet cable from your router into the box’s LAN port.
- Wi-Fi: you will connect during the first boot.
4) Power up
- Plug the power adapter into the box and the wall socket.
- The box should power on (an LED or boot screen will appear).
- If it does not switch on, press the power button on the box or remote.
5) Select TV input
- Turn on the TV.
- Press Input / Source on the TV remote and choose the HDMI input you used (e.g. HDMI 1).
First time setup on screen
- Choose English and set Region / Time zone (UK).
- Select display resolution — choose Auto or 1080p for most TVs.
- Connect to Wi-Fi: go to Settings → Network → Wi-Fi, select your network and enter the password.
- Allow any system updates if prompted and restart the box when asked.
Install apps & sign in
- Open Google Play Store (if present). Sign in with a Google account.
- Install common apps: YouTube, Netflix, BBC iPlayer, ITVX etc.
- Open each app and sign in with your account if needed.
Useful settings (quick)
- Display: Settings → Display → set to Auto / 1080p.
- Sound: Settings → Sound → choose Stereo/PCM if using TV speakers.
- HDMI-CEC: Enable on TV and box so your TV can turn on/off with the box (names vary by brand).
Play files from USB
- Insert a USB drive into the box.
- Open File Manager or VLC and browse the USB to play videos, music or photos.
Basic troubleshooting (fast fixes)
- No picture / No signal: check TV input (HDMI), reseat HDMI cable, try a different HDMI port.
- No Wi-Fi: move box closer to router, restart router and box, or use Ethernet.
- Remote not working: replace batteries, point remote at the box, remove obstacles.
- Apps crash or slow: clear app cache, update app, restart box, uninstall unused apps.
- Stuck on logo / won’t boot: unplug power 30 seconds, plug back in. If still stuck, factory reset (last resort).
Quick tips for clients
